Our next student summer spotlight is on Luke Nemecek, who is a senior INTS major with a security and diplomacy AOE and a double major in POLS and a minor in history. His hometown is Sterling VA and comes to WVU by way of Reedsville WV as well.

This summer, Luke was a Government Affairs Intern for United Airlines, specifically assigned to the International Regulatory and Policy team. His projects included raising awareness of United’s joint ventures and the positive impact antitrust immunity has on the airline industry, as well as researching multilateral climate initiatives and organizations for the upcoming COP31 summit. His favorite part of the program was the ability to travel every weekend and explore new places. Luke was lucky enough to be able to visit Greenland, Japan, the Netherlands, and Puerto Rico. Along with that, he was able to learn more and fully experiencing such a fantastic company that allowed him to do work that he’s passionate about and meet some incredible people around DC and in Chicago.

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to highlight some of our INTS majors and their summer adventures.

First up is Ben Caltrider, who is an INTS (with a Security and Diplomacy AOE) and History double major. He is from Charles Town WV. This summer, he completed the Critical Language Scholarship in Mandarin Chinese. He lived in Tainan, Taiwan for eight weeks with a host family, where he took intensive classes in Mandarin and met with a language partner.

Looks like you had an amazing time, Ben! Congrats on your CLS win!
