Today is National Creativity Day!

Today is a day to celebrate the artists in our life and take time to explore our own creativity.

Whether you consider yourself a painter, singer, musician, designer, dancer, filmmaker, or any other type of creator, this day is for you! But you don't have to be an artist to celebrate Creativity Day! We all possess the power of our imagination to observe the world around us and express ourselves in creative ways.

We at the Clayton State Library are taking today to celebrate everyone who has joined us at one of our Crafternoons and created something new of their own.

But creativity isn't just about the product. Our Crafternoon attendees report feelings of calm, peace, and decreased stress. Make sure you're following us here so you can join us next time!

Today we honor the U.S. military personnel who lost their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is commonly marked by parades and ceremonies and the decoration of fallen soldiers' graves with flags and flowers.

The association of poppies with the holiday began with a poem, "In Flanders Fields," by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, a Canadian poet, soldier, and physician who was moved by the sight of the bright-red flowers blooming across the fields which held the graves of many who had fought alongside him.

How do you commemorate the Memorial Day holiday?

Each month we select library resources to spotlight on our Featured Resources guide. Check out this month's video selection in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Through the streaming media collection Academic Video Online, provided by GALILEO, Clayton State users have access to over 80,000 videos on virtually any subject. This month we're highlighting the documentary "Hidden Focus."

"Hidden Focus" is a feature documentary that takes a close look at Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in the Black community, a group that has long been underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed, and left out of the mainstream ADHD conversation.

Through personal interviews, expert commentary, and the lived experience of those living with the disorder, the film breaks down what ADHD actually is, how it shows up in everyday life, and how cultural, social, and systemic factors shape the way it is recognized and treated in Black Americans.

You can find this film and other resources on our Featured Resources guide: clayton.libguides.com/feature

Today is National Classic Movie Day, a day to celebrate the film industry and reminisce about iconic films of the past.

What makes a film classic? Like many things, this can be subjective. Classics may contain themes that stay relevant across generations of viewers. They may include key social, political, cultural and historical elements of the time period in which it was produced. A film may be considered classic due to exceptional quality of the acting, production, or storyline, or by incorporating cutting edge technology of its time.

You can explore classic films today or anytime through our Academic Video Online resource. Just click on A-Z Database List from the Library's home page: clayton.edu/library

Clayton State Library is proud to congratulate our student employee, Meghan Williams, on receiving the Student Employee of the Year Award during this year’s National Student Employment Appreciation Week. ⭐

Meghan has been an outstanding asset to our library team. She led a student‑driven art initiative that invited students to create original artwork on study room windows, adding color, creativity, and a welcoming energy to a traditionally academic space. The project also contributed to a research study exploring how art influences students’ experiences in the library. 🎨

Working alongside fellow student Destiny Hanna and under the mentorship of Dr. Sonya Gaither, Dean of Libraries, Meghan presented their research at the Georgia Undergraduate Research in Psychology Conference (GURP) hosted by Kennesaw State University. 🔍

Meghan will graduate in Spring 2026 and plans to continue her education in a graduate program this fall. 🎓
