This week we’re highlighting Fran as she studies abroad in Stirling, Scotland this semester!
Here is what she has to say about her experience so far:
My name is Frances and I’m a 25 year old junior studying political science at University of Stirling in Stirling, Scotland for the 26/27 school year. I have been here for about a month, and it has been an absolute blast. I’ve spent the majority of this month getting acquainted with campus, the different course system here in the UK, meeting new people, and exploring the area. I’ve had the privilege to visit St. Andrews, explore large parts of the Stirling city centre with plans for a trip to the North East Coast and the Highlands very soon. My advice to anyone thinking about studying abroad is that it is a really wonderful thing to have the opportunity to study in a new country. While there is culture shock and homesickness, getting involved in student activities on campus, exploring the area that you’re in, and meeting other students is tremendously helpful! I have met some really wonderful people especially through the international student programs here in Stirling, and you find your home away from home with other people who are also in the same boat as you. This has already been a life changing experience, and I am excited for the rest of the year!
Frances was also the recipient of the Heart of USAC Scholarship in honor of U of I retired staff member Bob Neuenshwander. Congratulations on your award, Frances! We hope you have an amazing rest of the school year! ✈️ 🌍
