Audrey Bennett (25C) took a break from the rigor of graduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill for NYC summer adventures. She signed on with Vogue College of Fashion to teach aspiring journalists how to produce style content. Her experience as the managing editor of Valkyrie, Berry’s lifestyle magazine, served her well.

“We taught the students how to write a fashion article, how to edit their work and how a magazine is laid out,” she explains. “They presented a mock-up of their own September issue of Vogue, including a cover, articles, advertisements, brand collaborations and mood boards.”

As Berry heads into its 125th year, the college is strengthening the work and mission unveiling a new five-year strategic plan that emphasizes affordability, leadership, graduate preparedness, research and land stewardship.

“As we enter this next chapter from a position of strength, we are committed to pursuing work that is both difficult and excellent,” said Berry President Sandeep Mazumder. “Over the past year, we identified five core missional strengths that define the Berry education and then designed five strategic priorities rooted in those strengths. It is our objective to improve strategically, elevate our national profile and remain a place where students flourish.”

Claire Tibbetts (19C), an emergency medicine resident, hopes to pursue a fellowship in critical care. A well-rounded Berry education positioned her for success.

“In an epidemiology course at Berry, we discussed the ethics of studying animals,” says Tibbetts. “We learned that we could ethically culture the intestines of deceased animals for parasites. It was crazy and so cool. I was always trying to get written into this professor’s courses because they were challenging but so hands-on.”
