Black Music Month, officially recognized as African American Music Appreciation Month, is an annual observance every June celebrating the vast cultural and historical contributions of Black musicians to American and global music. It highlights genres born from the Black experience, including jazz, blues, gospel, R&B, rock and roll, and hip-hop.

In observance of Black History Month, Playhouse 615 will be presenting “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, directed by Mitchell Vantrease, theatre teacher at Mt. Juliet High School. Performances are June 5 – 21. Tickets are $25.00 for general admission and $35.00 for VIP seating that comes with front row bistro-style seating, charcuterie, and beverage.

FEATURING: Elliott Robinson, Lisa Graham, Raven Buntyn, Yolanda Treece, and Isiah Rankin

Meet Elliott Robinson as Ken in Ain’t Misbehavin’!

Elliott is a Nashville-based actor, singer, voiceover artist, and aspiring audiobook narrator making his Playhouse 615 debut. Audiences may recognize him from productions including The Wiz, Once on This Island, Jekyll & Hyde, Memphis, Ragtime, The Color Purple, Mamma Mia!, and many more.

By day, Elliott shares local history with visitors in the Civil Rights Room of Nashville’s Main Library, an official stop on the United States Civil Rights Trail.

He’s looking forward to audiences having a “rip-roaring, jumpin-jammin-jivin good time” at Ain’t Misbehavin’! Elliott also sends special thanks to the Creator and to his Jessica for their constant love and support.

Mt. Juliet’s Playhouse 615 will be presenting “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, directed by Mitchell Vantrease, theatre teacher at Mt. Juliet High School. Performances, just in time for Juneteenth and Black Music Month, are June 5 – 21. Tickets can be purchased directly through the theatre’s website, Playhouse615.com. Ain't Misbehavin' is a Tony Award-winning musical r***e conceived by Richard Maltby, Jr. and Murray Horwitz, celebrating the music of jazz legend Fats Waller. Directed by Maltby, Jr., the show features five performers in a high-energy, humorous tribute to the Harlem Renaissance, showcasing Waller's iconic songs like "Honeysuckle Rose" and the title track. It captures the spirit of 1930s Manhattan nightlife with swing, soul, and wit, earning the 1978 Tony Award for Best Musical.

Meet Isiah Rankin as Andre’ — and our Music Director for Ain’t Misbehavin’!

Originally from Memphis, TN, Isiah has worked with theaters across the Nashville area including Center Stage, Larry Keeton Theatre, Center for the Arts – Murfreesboro, and Audience of One. Some of his favorite credits include Sister Act, Memphis, Beautiful, and Ragtime.

Most recently, Isiah served as Music Director for Legally Blonde at Center for the Arts – Murfreesboro, and now he’s making his Playhouse 615 debut both onstage and behind the music for Ain’t Misbehavin’!

Excited to make his Playhouse 615 debut as both a cast member and Music Director, Isiah looks forward to audiences experiencing the cast’s powerful storytelling.

Directing Ain’t Misbehavin’ is Mitchell Vantrease, the theater teacher and director at Mt. Juliet High School. Mitchell has a B.A. degree in Speech, Communication and Theater from Tennessee State. He is a co-founder of Camp F.A.M.E. (Fine Arts Matter in Education) at Cumberland University. In addition, Mitchell is also the co-founder and artistic director of Centerstage Theatre Co., a Lebanon, TN based community theater.

Auditions for Agatha Christie’s “The Unexpected Guest.”

June 7 and 8: 6:30pm to 8:30pm

No monologue necessary--printed copies provided at the theater at auditions.

Non-AEA, no pay; all ethnicities and ages encouraged.

About the play: Lost in the fog, a stranger seeks refuge in a nearby house only to find a man shot dead and his wife standing over him with a smoking gun. But the woman’s dazed confession is anything but convincing and the unexpected guest decides to help. Remarkably, the police clues point to a man who died two years previously but as the ghosts of a past wrong begin to emerge, a tangled web of lies reveals family secrets and chilling motives, where the real murderer turns out to be the greatest mystery of all.

Richard Warwick – the wealthy, cruel and disabled victim, no text, 40’s to 50’s – will double as one of the other male characters who appear later in the play

• Laura Warwick – wife of Richard, initially confessing to murder, mid-30’s

• Michael Starkwedder – the unexpected guest, offering to help Laura, mid-30’s

• Miss Bennett – the house manager and secretary, harbouring secrets, 40’s-50’s

• Jan Warwick – Richard’s young half-brother, who hates him for past threats of confinement, 20’s

• Mrs. Warwick – Richard’s mother, who openly dislikes her son, 50+

• Henry Angell – Richard’s valet and personal nurse, 40’s

• Sergeant Cadwallader – a poetic and not always attentive police officer, 30’s

• Inspector Thomas – the detective leading the investigation, 40’s

• Julian Farrar – local politician with a hidden agenda, 30’s to 40’s
