May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. At Cornell, student well-being is always top of mind for our faculty and staff, and no one embodies this commitment more than the team at the Ebersole Health and Wellbeing Center. The Ebersole staff provides essential physical health resources alongside vital mental health services, including counseling, educational programs, referrals for long-term care, and support groups addressing a wide range of concerns.
Cornell students also play an important role in mental health advocacy. Student-athlete Brianna Risley ’27 launched a campus chapter of Morgan’s Message, a national organization dedicated to destigmatizing mental health in the athletic community. When asked what inspired her, Brianna shared: “As an athlete who has struggled with my mental health, I know firsthand how it feels to be lost in my emotions, yet too scared to speak up. When I became an ambassador for Morgan’s Message, I saw the impact other ambassadors had on their college campuses… bringing the message of ending the stigma of mental health surrounding athletes.”
We are grateful to the Ebersole Health and Wellbeing Center staff, Brianna, and all who are working to foster a supportive, compassionate campus community.
