Middle school musicians will have the opportunity to grow their musical skills and perform in a live concert this summer through the Summer Youth Band, a program of the MVNU Community Music School at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

The program is designed for middle school students who have completed at least one year of band and want to continue playing and growing as musicians during the summer months.

Rehearsals will take place at Mount Vernon Middle School from 5:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday across two weeks: June 16-18 and June 23-25.

The MVNU Music Department PROUDLY presents their final concert of the year. The ensembles will present this great concert, tomorrow, Saturday, May 2, at 3 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium.
The concert is FREE and open to the public. For those who are not able to attend in person, this wonderful concert of our talented students and their dedicated directors / instructors will be LIVE STREAMED on the MVNU Music Department page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057036716896

The concert will feature the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, String Ensemble, Flute Choir, Collegians Chorale, Una Voce Chamber Choir, and Treble Singers Women’s Choir.

A variety of music will be presented, and the concert will conclude with the combined groups featuring two pieces: “Hope for Resolution” by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory and “Lamb of God” by Twila Paris. “Hope for Resolution” was written to honor Nelson Mandela and F.W. de Klerk and combines the hymn chant “Of the Father’s Love Begotten” with a South African freedom song “Thula Sizwe.” The choirs reach back in time to perform one of the most inspirational songs by Twila Paris – “Lamb of God.” With our Easter celebrations still fresh on our minds and hearts, the stylings of renown composer/arranger Jay Rouse provide poignant interpretations of the moving lyrics culminating with “O wash me in His precious blood, My Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.”
Instrumental ensemble directors are Dr. John Packard, Chuck Dettmar, Chris Japikse, and Jennifer Packard. Choral directors are Dr. Robert Bob Tocheff, Dirk Eachus, and Sabina Thalheim Anderson.

It is such a joy to experience the senior violin recital of Brianna Rider at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Her talent is matched by the incredible person she is. To say she will be missed is an understatement for sure. We love you Brianna!

Una Voce performs today at the Quarry Chapel at 11am. We’ll see you there!

Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Una Voce Chamber Choir will present a spring concert on Saturday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at Quarry Chapel. The concert, located at 10930 Quarry Road in Gambier, is free and open to the public.

Una Voce, an a ca****la chamber choir, consists of 20 auditioned members under the direction of Mr. Dirk Eachus. This concert, entitled “Jubilant Praise,” will feature a variety of sacred a ca****la selections, including pieces from the Renaissance, Classical, and contemporary repertoire.
