Ball State Social Work Speaker Series–September 2026

The Ball State University Department of Social Work is excited to announce the first Social Work Speaker Series presentation for the Fall 2026 Semester! Join us virtually on Wednesday, September 16, from 3:30-4:30 pm (ET) as Dr. Mary Provence presents “Expanding Our Understanding of Library Social Work Models that Enhance Low Barrier Access for Vulnerable Patrons.” Dr. Provence's presentation will share the first look at an explanatory embedded multiple-case study of two U.S. large urban public libraries. Site visits and a total of 30 interviews were conducted, including the libraries’ management teams and social work teams, the head of library safety, patrons, and local police officers. Building on her prior work, Dr. Provence will expand our understanding of differing models of library social work integration and how they break down barriers to engagement with vulnerable patrons, including those experiencing homelessness.
