✨ Alumni Spotlight ✨ We’re incredibly proud to share that Graphic Design alumna Jessica Hord has joined Figma as a Product Designer! In her new role, Jessica will be designing experiences that help enterprise and government customers confidently adopt Figma as a platform, including its AI capabilities. Before joining Figma, Jessica served as a Design Lead at Meta and as a Product Designer II at Microsoft. Jessica earned her BFA in Visual Communication from Ball State University in 2018. ✨

Alumni Spotlight: Artist and School of Art alumna Julie Xiao is bringing imaginative new worlds to life across Indianapolis. ✨

Working in ink, acrylic, and large-scale mixed-media scrolls, Julie creates colorful, narrative-driven work inspired by nature, animation, and the fantastical. Her work can be found throughout the city—including at the Indianapolis International Airport—and she’ll be among the artists exhibiting at the 59th annual Penrod Arts Fair at Newfields on September 12.

Julie studied animation at Ball State before earning her master’s degree from Herron School of Art and Design, and we love seeing the creative path she continues to build!

The Glick Center for Glass presents students with a rare opportunity to study glass as a medium for art. Be sure to visit the center when you get to campus this fall to learn more about working with glass!

During the last academic year, Studio 165+ ( ) collaborated with the Ball State Division for People and Culture to develop stickers as part of the University’s initiative to expand recognition for years of service and retirement.

“It became a valuable learning experience,” Professor Shantanu Suman said. “We explored the meaning behind these campus landmarks and connected them to years-of-service milestones. That dialogue helped transform the project into something more intentional and rooted in place...I was recently told that these stickers will be used for at least a decade, if not longer. That longevity makes this work even more meaningful. For all of us in Studio 165+, it is a genuine point of pride to contribute to something that will be remembered by the faculty and staff of Ball State. In a small but lasting way, we’ve helped create an artifact that becomes part of the University’s story and the stories of the people who make it what it is.”

Need some color or inspiration in your life? There's plenty of places to go! The David Owsley Museum of Art at Ball State University is a great place to see a variety of art in different mediums, colors, sizes, and more. Make sure to visit when you get to campus!

Some other places to find art on campus:
-The Art and Journalism Building (Griner + Fourth Wall galleries, hallways, main office, etc.)
-Bracken Library (books, paintings, statues, etc.) ( )
-All over campus!
