MTSU Professional Counseling Program

MTSU’s Professional Counseling program offers two concentrations—Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling.

Both concentrations are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

This week, the MTSU Professional Counseling Program students met with Dr. Lee and Professor F**k for the end of semester internship dinner! Our interns have been placed at agencies, practices, and schools all over middle Tennessee. They have gained new skills and experience in working with clients. Many of our interns are graduating, so we are excited to welcome them to the field as they start their careers as counselors.

As the semester ends, we begin our celebratory dinners. Our practicum students worked hard this semester as they saw their first clients at the MTSU Center for Counseling and Psychological Services. Our students should be proud of the knowledge, experience, and confidence they have gained. 💙

Volunteer Behavioral Health in Murfreesboro graciously offered to allow students from The MTSU Professional Program to tour their center. Volunteer offers various services including outpatient counseling, care management, inpatient care, and more. The students and faculty were grateful for the experience to learn more about a center that serves their community!

On April 27th, 2026, the College of Education hosted an award ceremony! Several MTSU Students including Que Pugh, Maggie Hood, Erin Dodrill, and Kristen Hamilton. We are so proud of our counseling students and their commitment to academic and professional excellence. They are going to be fantastic counselors. 💙

The MTSU Counseling Program hosted Dr. Christine Ranck and Dr. Pie Frey for Brainspotting Part 2. Dr. Frey and Dr. Ranck walked participants through more advanced brainspotting techniques. Participants traveled from all over TN and the country to learn about the power of brainspotting! Thank you Dr. Ranck and Dr. Frey for coming out. We hope to see you again soon!

MTSU Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota hosted a social and wellness event on Thursday, 4/23 at . Students were able to get free beverages and enjoyed delicious pastries provided by the café. Each person brought their own craft or borrowed materials from fellow students. Students got a much needed opportunity to relax after a long semester. The New Spring 2026 Cohort of the MTSU Professional Counseling Program met for dinner with Dr. Lee and Professor F**k. Training and education is important, but our sense of community is essential to creating a safe and welcoming environment.

One of our former school counseling students, Jaylyn White has been hired as a school counselor at Hobgood Elementary School in Murfreesboro, TN. Jay will be starting in the 2026-2027 school year. Hobgood Elementary is a Title I school with a diverse population of students. Congrats to Jay on an amazing new position and congrats to Hobgood Elementary on their new amazing school counselor! 💙

March 23-27 was MTSU Scholars Week! This annual tradition aims to celebrate scholarship, research, and creativity. The College of Education held Scholars Day on March 24th. Several MTSU Professional Counseling students presented on important topics pertaining to the counseling field. Thank you to Erin Dodrill, Zachary Nawas, Justin Ritter, and Kate Biscoglia for presenting your projects. Congratulations to Erin Dodrill and Zachary Nawas for earning Scholars Day awards! We are excited to celebrate your scholarly accomplishments.
