Media Arts at MTSU

𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞
From producing ESPN+ coverage of MTSU athletics to directing live sports broadcasts, technical directing championship events, and leading video production for major campus events, Media Arts student Lauren Turnage has spent the academic year building real-world experience across every corner of live production.

The fall and spring semester Lauren worked on ESPN+ broadcasts, directed MTSU softball productions, technical directed the CUSA Tennis Championship Finals, served as EIC for the video coverage of the Match Records Showcase, and led video production for the Womack Commons Groundbreaking. Along the way, she gained hands-on experience with directing, replay, graphics, switching, flypacks, video walls, and live event troubleshooting.

Experiences like these give our students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in high-pressure, professional environments before graduation. We can't wait to see what Lauren accomplishes during her final year at MTSU!

Congratulations to the students in Professor Kristine Potter’s 𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝑇𝑜𝑝𝑖𝑐𝑠: 𝑂𝑛 𝐴𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 course! Their work has been published in the Nashville Scene marking the first collaboration between MTSU Photo Program and the publication. Through this hands-on assignment, students gained real-world editorial photography experience and earned published photo credits. Check out the article and see their work!

Another Bonnaroo is in the books! 🎥📸 Our Media Arts students spent the weekend capturing the energy of the festival through video production and photography, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced professional environment. From documenting unforgettable moments to creating content behind the scenes, they built their portfolios, expanded their networks, and earned real-world experience that extends far beyond the classroom.

It means graduating with professional experience, industry connections, and a portfolio built in the real world. Our alumni have gone on to careers in live entertainment working with artists including Post Malone, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Mötley Crüe, and Carrie Underwood, just to name a few.

This could be your classroom. This could be your future.

That's exactly what 26 Media and Entertainment students will experience at Bonnaroo this year as they work alongside industry professionals producing live content from one of the nation's biggest music festivals.

For a decade, this partnership has given our students the opportunity to learn by doing — and many have gone on to careers in live music, touring, broadcasting and entertainment production.

From the classroom to the concert stage, this is experiential learning at its best.
