Media Arts at MTSU Programs include filmmaking, television production, animation, photography, and media management.

MTSUโ€™s Department of Media Arts is the stateโ€™s largest and longest-running creative media program, offering hands-on study in video, TV, film, animation, live events, photography, and media management. The Media Arts Department in the College of Media and Entertainment at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is the largest, oldest, and most comprehensive program for creative media production i

n the state and in the region. Media Arts is known for outstanding facilities that provide students with professional-level hands-on experiences. The department was formerly known as the Department of Electronic Media Communication (EMC) and formally changed its name to Media Arts on July 1, 2017.

Faculty Spotlight: Kristine Potter

Weโ€™re celebrating Professor Kristine Potter and her exhibition, ๐ท๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘˜ ๐‘Š๐‘Ž๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘ , currently on view at the University Art Gallery at Sewanee through October 14.

The exhibition explores gendered violence, memory, music and the mythology of the Southern landscape. Potter will discuss the work on Thursday, September 17, at 5 p.m. in Guerry Auditorium, followed by a reception.

๐Ÿšš The Mobile Production Lab is BACK, and it got a serious upgrade.
New look. New capabilities. Same mission: putting our students where the action is.

The truck is rolling out with a vibrant new exterior designed by SoJSM Professor Leslie Haines, but the biggest changes are happening on the inside.
The Mobile Production Lab is being modernized with an upgraded 1080p 3G-SDI workflow and all-fiber connectivity for cameras and audio, giving our students the technology they need to work alongside major partners like Bonnaroo, ESPN and other broadcast outlets.

It looks different. It works smarter. And itโ€™s ready for whatโ€™s next.

๐…๐š๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐’๐ฉ๐จ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ

Media Arts Professor Tom Neff is bringing his expertise and experience to a major new documentary project, tentatively titled "Tear Down This Wall."

Professor Neff is the driving force behind the five-hour documentary series, which explores the life, ideas and impact of renowned economist Dr. Arthur Laffer, creator of the famed Laffer Curve, which illustrates the relationship between tax rates and government revenue.

Production is scheduled for this fall, with post-production continuing through winter and spring 2027.

SBCME faculty member Jerod Hollyfield also recently visited the set to offer feedback on script drafts as the project takes shape.

Weโ€™re proud to see our faculty using their industry expertise to help bring storytelling projects like this to life. ๐ŸŽฌ
