Meet Aleeza Razzaq, one of our MTSU Honors College Ambassadors! đź’™
Aleeza is a Biology major with a physiology concentration from Murfreesboro, with plans to pursue medical or dental school after graduation.
As a Buchanan Fellow, Aleeza says one of her favorite parts of the Honors College has been becoming part of the “Buchanan family” and meeting so many amazing people along the way. She also appreciates the Honors College’s combination of small, challenging classes and the resources of a major research university.
On campus, Aleeza stays involved as vice president of MMY@MTSU, secretary of MSA, and a member of Pre-CAA and MAPS.
Her advice to incoming Honors students? Get involved early and take advantage of Honors opportunities!
You can usually find Aleeza studying on the third floor of the Engineering Building by the whiteboards — and one fun fact about her: She’s double-jointed!
Help us welcome Aleeza to the Honors Ambassador team! đź’™

Scholarships make a difference, not only by helping students afford college but by connecting them with people who believe in their potential.

Honors student Ethan Broome recently had the opportunity to meet Don and Hanna Witherspoon, longtime MTSU supporters, Honors Board of Visitors members, and the namesakes of an Honors scholarship. Ethan was among the Band of Blue students surprised with a scholarship this year.

It was a great reminder of what happens when generous donors invest in MTSU students: Students get the support they need to pursue their goals, and donors get to see the people whose lives they are helping shape.

We’re proud to see Honors students like Ethan making the most of these opportunities, and grateful for donors like Don and Hanna who continue to invest in our students.

🇺🇸 What does the Declaration of Independence mean to Americans today?

In the latest Buchanan Lecture, Honors College Dean Dr. John Vile explores the meaning and lasting influence of one of America's most important founding documents — and how Americans have celebrated it throughout history.

From the Declaration's origins during the American Revolution to the nation's 50th, 100th, 150th, 200th and now 250th anniversaries, Dr. Vile examines how our understanding and celebration of the Declaration have evolved.

Drawing from his scholarship and personal collection of historical artifacts, Dr. Vile brings the Declaration to life and considers what its ideals of equality, liberty, self-government and the pursuit of happiness continue to mean.

🎥 Watch "What the Declaration of Independence Means & How America Has Celebrated It" from the Fall 2026 Buchanan Lecture Series.
