tion, evaluation and selection, judging, riding, horse health, event and facility management, and equine-assisted therapy. As part of Middle Tennessee State University's Agribusiness and Agriscience department, we offer a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a concentration in Horse Science, as well as a Master of Science in Horse Science, with concentrations in Equine Physiology, Equine Education, and Equine Industry Management.

⭐️Summer of research!! ⭐️

We have 4 ongoing Horse Science M.S. thesis research projects in various stages of data collection and analysis this summer!

These current projects cover topics in biomechanics, arena management, equitation science, and nutrition. We plan for all projects to be submitted to the Equine Science Society for presentation at the 2027 symposium, with journal article submissions to follow.

We are saddened to announce the loss of Seve, 1995 Tennessee Walking Horse stallion (Pride’s Generator out of Doctor’s Lady) owned by Dr. Barbara Utermark (Martinez, GA). Seve passed quietly on May 2nd and was laid to rest at the Whitaker farm next to his barn mate, MTSU’s foundation stallion, Hey Dare. Seve was trained by Allen Forman to become a two-time Reserve World Champion Aged Stallion. Seve sired multiple World and World Grand Champions, and many Tennessee Walking Horses in the MTSU herd carry his bloodlines. Seve stood at the MTSU Horse Barn for over 18 years under the care of Jeremy Carlton, with whom Seve had strongly bonded during his time standing at Saddlecrest Farms. Our deepest condolences to Barbara Utermark, Allen Forman, and Jeremy Carlton over the loss of a truly great horse. Please share your favorite pictures and memories of Seve in the comments!
