We have about 1,000 students and the student to faculty ratio is 16:1. Chowan University offers over 70 academic programs. We also offer 18 NCAA Division II teams competing in the conference Carolinas and the CIAA. Chowan also has state-of-the-art fitness centers, smart classrooms, and a 450+ acre campus. Located in the tight-knit community of Murfreesboro, NC, Chowan University is just an hour's drive from the major cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA. Raleigh, NC is just 2 hours away. There are lots of opportunities to get involved with over 45 clubs and organizations on campus. You'll have the opportunity to serve in various locations both home and abroad through Campus Ministry. Study abroad is also available. Some of the places we have studied are Israel, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, France, Germany, Switzerland, and more!

For more than four decades, Dr. Dorothy A. Wallace helped shape generations of Chowan students.

From 1965 to 2007, Dr. Wallace served in the Chowan School of Business, where her influence reached far beyond the classroom. Former students remember a professor who challenged them, encouraged them, and helped give them the confidence to build successful careers.

Her story, “A Foundation That Lasts,” is featured in the latest edition of The Chowanoka.
