Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

Students in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences have numerous opportunities to be involved beyond the classroom through participation in research, internships, annual field schools, departmental clubs, and honor societies. The department is closely aligned with the Mid-America Remote Sensing Center (MARC), a center dedicated to teaching, research, and service to the community in the

areas of remote sensing and GIS. The department also provides research opportunities in conjunction with the Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site and the Murray State Archaeology Laboratory. In addition, there are opportunities for students and faculty to conduct water-related research at the Center for Excellence for Reservoir Research (WRI), located on Kentucky Lake. Students can participate in the Archaeology Club, the GeoClub, Lambda Alpha National Collegiate Honorary Society for Anthropology, or Sigma Gamma Epsilon Earth Science Honor Society.
