Racer Live is a student organization that is responsible for booking, promoting and producing many of the events that take place every semester on the campus of MSU. While we do research and survey what artists we wish to perform on campus the biggest part of our job is promotion. We have to sell tickets and today people are bombarded with so much advertising that many people notice little, if any
of it. We have to promote our shows with marketing strategies that are creative enough so that people can’t help but take notice of the upcoming concert. This is both a challenging and fun aspect of being a part of Racer Live! We help assemble all of the stage, sound, and lights as well as providing all accommodations for the artists and the stage crews. Months of preparation and promotion go into the success of an event but it truly is a rewarding experience to see a venue of people having a wonderful experience that you were a part of from the beginning. Whether it is pertinent to you major or not, the business of live entertainment will teach you some important lessons that are difficult to learn solely in a classroom such as forming and keeping professional relationships, being a leader, implementing marketing plans, and volunteering to be a part of something that is much bigger than one’s satisfaction.
