After reposting the astonishing news this morning, I've had a heavy first day of teaching, so I've only been able to glance at the many discussions briefly. I share everyone else's surprise, and I also have decades of my older pieces that I'll have to start converting now. I feel your pain and share it.

Having been an early adopter of Dorico, I will only encourage everyone that this is a fantastic piece of software. The transition is not easy, but that is because Dorico's way of approaching music is somewhat different from Finale/Sibelius. But once I made the transition (a matter of a few weeks of frustration), I have been a full convert ever since. I won't enumerate the reasons here, but I say that only to encourage everyone that the transition is worth the pain.

I vividly remember how transformative my first exposure to Finale was in the late 80s, and my creative development over the following decades was entirely within that program. I feel a deep debt of gratitude and much sadness at its departure.
