9am to 7pm, unless otherwise posted. Groups of 12 or more are asked to call or email in advance to check-in with the station director prior to visiting. The wrack line is, as expected, quite high, showing the high tide reached the dunes and bluff edge. The landscape out here has both drifts and crusty areas, ice coated shrubs and some downed trees. Sadly we lost a favorite red cedar but the power is on again and we otherwise have no major damage.

Folger's Marsh is doing its job of absorbing storm surge water. We have a storm surge and power outage on this end of the island. It is almost lowtide but the water has not receded out of the marsh very much at all. Stay warm everyone!

Our busy January is coming to a close, but the activity continues! Elli Heywood and her team from NOAA are staying on, not going anywhere but to find gray seals when the weather permits. It was wonderful to have one of our NFS interns, Janeyssy Morillo back in the lab helping to crank out results on the summer eelgrass samples collected for the genetics project we are working on, generously funded by Great Harbor Yacht Club Foundation. Juanita Urban Rich and Laura Castro Diaz were here and we look forward to seeing them at Sciencefest! AJ Paprocki stopped by as well, it was so nice to see them. Stay warm all!

We have an abundance of tracks in the snow, wild and domestic. Not a lot of diversity of tracks here on Nantucket but many sizes of rabbit, deer, gray squirrel, and dog tracks, of course too!
Rabbit and squirrel tracks in the snow might seem similar but rabbits have small round toes and fur covered feet while squirrels have long fingers.
