Hello all. My name is Barbara Gookin and I helped my son, Colin Carr, start this page when he was at NHS. He was founder and president of Nantucket Students For Sustainability and now he and all of the other students who were part of this school club are college students. Last year this club was not active due to lack of student interest. Before the new school year starts, encourage any students who might be interested to jump start this club. Jenna Hoffman was the teacher advisor but it's up to the students to get this going again... and I'd be happy to turn over this page to a new group of students.

All of our current members of this club are graduating this week. If you are a student or the parent of a student, please encourage them to join this club and continue to educate the schools and community about the importance of energy conservation, recycling and renewables. It has been a great learning experience. Good luck!

Today was the dedication ceremony commemorating the naming of the Nantucket Public Schools wind turbine in honor of John D. "Jack" McFarland, the schools' longtime facilities manager and champion of the project, who died last year. Thank you to all who attended, especially the McFarland family.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!!! Today we are presenting our 2011 Earth Day Award to Cape Air/Nantucket Airlines for their commitment to sustainability, having converted their headquarters to a net-zero electricity user with a 258kW array of solar panels on their roof. They are also reducing airplane fuel consumption by 4%. Great job!!!

Evening arrival just before the dinner break at CEI sustainability conference (a day late due to ACK weather) NHS SFS were asked to make power point presentation right away. It went great. People asked a LOT of detailed questions and they gave a standing ovation.

SNOW delayed our departure, but after 5 hours we got on our way. Arrived in Boston to find out there is a big fire at Miami airport. Delayed again.
