What happens when curiosity becomes research, and research becomes impact?

For Sophia Florence Romanic, PhDLC ’26, the answer is a remarkable journey spanning applied linguistics, higher education, international education, and learning design.
Today, as a U.S. Department of State English Language Fellow in Costa Rica, Sophia continues to turn her expertise into meaningful educational impact across cultures.

Her doctoral research at Hellenic American University explored how universities can implement English-medium instruction in ways that are effective, equitable, and responsive to local contexts.

An unforgettable evening before the big day. 🎓🍷

Following our graduation rehearsal, the Class of 2026 gathered for our pre-graduation celebration at the 8th-floor roof garden of the Athens campus. With the Acropolis standing proudly in the background and Lycabettus Hill overlooking the city, it was the perfect setting to pause and celebrate!

The evening was filled with w**e, smiles, conversations, and shared memories among classmates, faculty, and members of the alumni community.

As we look ahead to our Commencement Ceremony tomorrow, June 25, this special gathering reminded us that graduation is not only about reaching the finish line; it is also about the people who walked the journey alongside us.

Here’s to the Class of '26, to new beginnings, and to the exciting chapters that lie ahead.

In Memoriam: Jürgen Habermas (1929–2026)
The global intellectual community mourns the passing of Jürgen Habermas, one of the most influential philosophers of the modern era and a leading voice in the defense of democratic reason.
Habermas’s work on the public sphere, communicative rationality, and democratic dialogue reshaped contemporary social and political thought. His belief that free societies depend on open, rational discourse among citizens remains profoundly relevant today.
His intellectual legacy will continue to inspire scholars and citizens committed to democratic discourse and the ongoing project of Europe.

The Board of Trustees of Hellenic American University has appointed Themis P. Kaniklidou as the institution’s new President.

Announced by Board Chair Jimmy Athanasopoulos, the appointment marks an important step in the University’s continued commitment to academic excellence, strategic growth, and student success.

Dr. Kaniklidou previously served as Chief Academic Officer and Provost, where she led key initiatives including the University’s 2022 interim accreditation and the expansion of study-abroad programs.

Last night we had the pleasure of celebrating the HAUniv Alumni Vasilopita Cutting 2026 at the beautiful National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens.

Alumni, colleagues, and friends of the Hellenic American University community came together to reconnect, share stories, and celebrate the beginning of a new year — a reminder that the strength of our university lies in the people who remain connected long after graduation.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so special. And of course, congratulations to our lucky Vasilopita winners! 🍀
