We are so proud of one of our own! ๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Dr. Tim Johnson, Lipscomb's Elizabeth Gentry Brown Professor of History, on the release of his newest book โ€” Robert Neyland: The West Point Engineer Who Built Tennessee Football!

Released in the 100th anniversary year of Neyland's first season as head coach, this groundbreaking biography is the first scholarly account of the football legend's life โ€” including his remarkable career as an Army Brigadier General. Dr. Johnson, a military historian with eight books to his name, continues to make us proud. Congratulations, Dr. Johnson! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ“–

f๐Ÿบ Ashdod Excavation Project 2026 โ€” Part 1

We're thrilled to share highlights from the first two weeks of this summer's excavation at Ashdod! The Lanier Center for Archaeology partnered with Ariel University to work on a monumental Iron Age six-chambered gate โ€” first uncovered 60 years ago by Moshe Dothan โ€” in support of upcoming conservation efforts by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.

The team created 3D models for digital preservation, collected dating samples, and even uncovered an earlier four-chambered gate beneath the site โ€” plus some beautiful pottery along the way! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon!

Research Spotlight!

Congratulations to Ellis Moudy who spent the summer as a Chemistry and Biochemistry Carruth Research Fellow! Ellis worked with Dr. Cavitt on a biofilm formation project. The overall goal of this summer's work was to prevent E. coli bacteria from growing on catheters to help reduce the amount of catheter-associated UTI's. Hopefully, future directions of the work will expand to other areas that are prone to infection such as breast implants.

We're thankful to have had her meticulous attention to detail, curiosity, and persistency in the lab with us this summer. Great job, Ellis!

Research Spotlight!

We're excited to share the work Mario Faragalla has been doing! The second of our DCB Carruth Research Fellows, Mario worked with Dr. Weinstein-Webb to analyze Victorian-era books from Lipscomb's Beaman Library for hazardous heavy metal pigments, like chrome yellow, which contains lead and chromium. Mario is used a tri-substrate framework across four instruments (ICP-OES, portable XRF, SEM-EDS, and XRD) to locate and identify the toxic pigments within each book.

Mario's long-term goal is to give libraries and collectors a validated, non-destructive methodology for screening historical books for hazardous materials before handling them.

Mario has already presented about this work at the Lipscomb Student Scholar Symposium and had another opportunity to present this summer at the Christian College Librarians Conference. Way to go, Mario!

Every summer, Lipscomb University French students embark on a five-week journey to Angers, France โ€” and they come home forever changed. ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท

Through the Centre International d'Etudes Franรงaises, students take daily courses, share meals with welcoming French host families, and explore iconic destinations like the Loire Valley castles, Normandy Beaches, and Mont St. Michel.

More than a language program, this is a life-changing experience that builds confidence, cultural understanding, and a broader view of the world. We couldn't be prouder of these students! ๐Ÿฐ
