Students, faculty, staff and community partners gathered this spring for Vanderbilt’s inaugural Bridging Campus and Community symposium.

Across 32 projects, participants shared how collaboration can address real-world challenges—from public health to education and policy research. The event also recognized student teams and a community partner for meaningful, sustained engagement.

These partnerships reflect the role universities can play in strengthening communities and informing solutions that matter.

As Nashville welcomes spring, we’re working with community partners to share events that bring people together.

From museum exhibitions and neighborhood garden tours to star parties and outdoor concerts, there are many ways to connect, learn and enjoy the season. Several events are free or offer student access.

We invite our campus and neighbors to explore what’s happening across the city.

At Vanderbilt University, strong partnerships with our community are central to how we approach our work.

Last week, we welcomed local partners, faculty, staff and students for our Community Engagement Symposium. The event created space to share ideas, highlight ongoing work and learn from one another.

We were proud to feature over 75 presenters representing a wide range of projects and partnerships across Nashville and beyond.

We also recognized three honorees at the close of the symposium: "Cutting Out Stigma", Distinguished Community Partner; "Co-Learning, Creativity, and Youth Empowerment in Juvenile Detention", recipient of the Marshall C. Eakin Award for Undergraduate Community Service; and "Evaluating Substance Use Prevention Coalitions in TN: A Statewide Community Engaged Partnership", recipient of the Sharon L. Shields Award for Graduate Community Service.
