April is Occupational Therapy month!
Hear from some OTA students on why they chose the profession and their description of OT!
"Life is like competing in an obstacle course, but sometimes there are barriers that make it feel impossible to complete. Maybe you’re wearing a blind fold, your feet are tied together, the hurdles are too high, the crowd is too noisy, or you can’t seem to determine where the course starts and ends. Occupational therapy helps identify the specific barriers you’re facing and works with you to determine the best way for you to complete that challenging part of the obstacle course.
The field of occupational therapy initially intrigued me since it focuses on helping individuals do the activities that matter most to them. It turns “I can’t” into “I can” by making changes to the environment, a piece of equipment, or through other techniques so an individual can successfully participate in a way that works specifically for them. I’ve always enjoyed problem-solving and connecting with individuals through their stories. Working in occupational therapy will allow me to utilize these skills to improve the lives of others coming from a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences".
