A lovely shot from yesterday’s directing class featuring the one and only jacob.waltermire. An absolute NFI gem, he be. I asked Jacob to give us an original quote so that when he’s a famous director we can all go back and reference his wise words from when he was a mere film student. He came with the heat:

“In filmmaking, being a director feels like you’re playing a version of football where the head cheerleader has swapped positions with the quarterback. Really, your job is just to keep up the momentum while setting the tone needed for your team to succeed, all to keep the people up in the bleachers (or, in this case, the movie theater) happy. But you can’t ever forget that you’re playing a team sport, and more often than not, it’s the cast and crew who are really doing the real hard work. Yesterday was a heavy day for Tennessee in particular. Few people could ever bring folks together the way Dolly Parton did. Anyone who ever crossed paths with her says the same thing: she was warm, generous, kind, angelic, remarkably grounded, and full of heart. Across her entire career in entertainment, she used her platform to lift up people whose voices weren’t always heard, all while staying true to who she was, with grace and legendary style. We were beyond fortunate to have her for as long as we did, and grateful for the UNREAL body of work she left us, along with the institutions she built that will keep strengthening communities for generations to come. “She will be missed” doesn’t even scratch the surface. THIS ONE HURTS. 😭
