Today, we are highlighting senior Star Matthew and her amazing leadership as a TA!

“My name is Star Matthew, and I am the TA for Building the Sustainable Company, co-taught by Professor Leonora Williamson and Paul Kusserow, the former CEO of one of America’s largest home health firms Amedisys! I first met Professor Williamson in the spring of 2023 through her CSR and Negotiation courses. I immediately found myself resonating with both her teaching style and her inspiring journey through the corporate sector. After taking her ESG Investing course in the Fall of 2023, I joined her and Paul in helping to develop this special topics course!
In this course, students not only develop technical competencies in management and strategy through the case study of Amedisys and its turnaround in 2014, but they also work to develop attitudes like grit, self-awareness, and self-confidence necessary for building a sustainable career in business. Throughout the semester, we will explore texts like Paul Kusserow’s Anatomy of a Turnaround, Angela Duckworth’s Grit, the Tao of Ching, and the Bhagavad Gita. Though this course will likely only be taught once, assisting both Professor Williamson and Paul in designing this course has been the experience of a lifetime!“

Johnson. Offering $1,000 for first place and $500 for second, the award spotlights a graduating student displaying exceptional talent and promise in business.

Candidates for the Steine Award must submit a minimum 500 word essay explaining how and why the Undergraduate Business Minor Program has enhanced their Vanderbilt experience and prepared them for a successful career. A committee of Business Studies faculty will select the best paper, taking into consideration whether the student's academic record supports his or her arguments.  Eligibility extends to any current senior from Vanderbilt’s four undergraduate schools who will be graduating Spring 2024 with a Business minor.

All entries are due no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, March 22nd.

All submissions and questions should be emailed to [email protected]. Please write "Steine Award" in the subject line.

Today, we are highlighting senior, Livia De Luca Almeida, the TA for Professor Brad White’s special topics course in Digital Marketing and Social Media!!

“Hi! I am Livia De Luca Almeida. I am a senior and a Psychology major with Business and MHS minors . Next year I will be
as Global Private Bank Banker Analyst at JP Morgan Chase. I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and I’m fluent in three languages! I currently serve as the TA for Professor Brad White in BUSA 3891-02: Special Topics – Digital Marketing and Social Media. I’d previously been a TA for Organizational Behavior with Prof Kendall Park and absolutely loved being a TA, so was interested in having a similar role again as a second semester senior.
This special topics class combines classic marketing with modern digital tools to understand, reach, attract, convert, and engage customers. Students learn the material through cool and innovative projects, such as such as digital marketing simulations (mini projects in which they get to design websites), as well as Google and Hubspot certifications which will set them apart from others when trying to get jobs in the field.“
