Shout-out to the NSU bassoons for being such a talented group of musicians who all decided that playing one difficult wasn't enough
sugg first started out playing the french horn and over the years started to dabble in every instrument that he could get his hands on. He eventually started to spend most of his time becoming closer with the bassoon and after graduation, joined the NSU Bassoon Studio as a Music Education Major. Check out his personal pages to see him playing full band pieces all by himself!
Dr. Douglas Bakenhus describes his job as a dream come true. When he was finishing his degrees from UT Austin, Texas A&M Commerce and University of Michigan, he envisioned himself teaching bassoon at a midsized university while also conducting an orchestra. He tells us that he wakes up everyday and feels like the luckiest man in the world getting to do what he dreamed of. As the Director and Conductor of the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony, he also has extensive training in string methods and pedagogy. Occasionally, you can find him filling in with the strings for our lab orchestra class.
originally started out on the saxophone but quickly switched to the bassoon after he saw performing on YouTube. Krïstoff continued to study the saxophone alongside the bassoon throughout middle school and highschool where he later started to learn the oboe. During the beginning of his undergrad, he also took a semester of baroque flute lessons with, former flute professor and wife of Dr. Bakenhus, Dr. McDermott. Krïstoff now enjoys spending some of his free time playing the harp.
