The Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSU) Bachelors of Social Work (BSW) for online and face to face programs assists students in developing the knowledge, skills, competencies, and values to effectively help people confront and resolve personal problems and public issues. The Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) prepares graduates for immediate entry into direct social work and human s

ervices positions. Additionally, our degree allows graduates going on to Masters-level (MSW) social work programs, in many cases, to pass over approximately one-half of the MSW courses. We are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day (9/10), NPSB joins communities across the country in recognizing Su***de Prevention Month and sharing this year’s important theme: “Changing the Narrative on Su***de.”🎗️

Changing the narrative starts with making it okay to talk about difficult feelings and reminding our students that they do not have to face those feelings alone.

For parents and caregivers, this can mean creating a safe space for your child to talk and knowing when to reach out for additional support. For students, it means knowing that it is okay to speak up when things feel overwhelming and to reach out to someone you trust.

A conversation with a parent, caregiver, teacher, counselor, coach, friend, or another trusted adult can be an important first step.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing reminders and resources to help our NPSB community start conversations, listen without judgment, and support one another.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available 24/7. Call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, or chat online by visiting 988lifeline.org

You are not alone. It’s okay to ask for help.

Students, several of you have reached out to our faculty to verify emails received from other student accounts at Northwestern notifying you about account deactivation. These are “phishing” attempts most likely. As a reminder, the university will never send out emails asking you to follow a link and verify anything. Official emails will always instruct to check your account through Vic. If you are concerned about your account, call IT at 318-357-6696 or email [email protected].

Meet our newest faculty member: Dr. Traci Miller-Earl

Dr. Miller-Earl is a Central Louisiana native — and an NSU social work graduate herself. After earning her BSW here, she went on to complete her MSW at Stephen F. Austin State University and her Ed.D. in Executive Educational Leadership. Her work centers on mental health, clinical social work, and human behavior.

In her own words: "I genuinely enjoy working with students and helping them feel supported as they grow in the profession. I like bringing real world social work experience into the classroom and creating a space where students feel comfortable learning, asking questions, and finding their own confidence."

Outside of work, she's usually with her family, traveling, or reading.

Welcome home, Dr. Miller-Earl. We're glad you're here. 💜
