From the Field to the Classroom!

Following Detective Howard’s recent visit, our CTEC Criminal Justice students had the opportunity to put their new knowledge into action through a hands-on crime scene lab!

Students practiced preserving a crime scene to protect important evidence and used end matching and mechanical fit techniques to determine whether broken or separated pieces of tape could be connected. These skills directly tied to a real case Detective Howard discussed during her presentation.

Experiences like this help our juniors and seniors connect classroom learning with the real-world skills used by criminal justice professionals every day.

CTEC Criminal Justice students had the opportunity to hear from Detective Lori Howard about the realities of crime scene investigation and the importance of doing the job right from the very beginning.

Detective Howard shared her experiences working major cases throughout her career, including investigations and interviews involving local cases. She gave students a firsthand look at how crime scenes are processed, how evidence can shape an investigation, and what investigators actually face beyond what we see on TV.

This semester, our students are studying crime scene investigation, and there’s no substitute for hearing directly from someone who has spent a career doing the work.

CTEC is Back in Action!

Our instructors were excited to welcome this year’s students back to CTEC!

Throughout the year, students will build hands-on skills in their chosen programs while also developing the employability skills employers value—résumé writing, job interviewing, workplace expectations, teamwork, and professionalism.

Our shops and labs may be a little quiet right now because safety comes first! But give us a couple of weeks, and they’ll be buzzing with students putting their new skills to work.

Crowder College welcomed our instructors back to campus yesterday with what was repeatedly called the best professional development day ever. As a college-wide team we celebrated goals not just met but surpassed and dreamed of even bigger destinations for the future. Looking forward to the best year yet!
