Congratulations to graduating senior English major and super student, Sierra French, for giving a dynamite presentation at today's IUS Student Research Conference. Her presentation, Echo Chambers and Their Dangers: An Analysis of the Incel Community in the Digital Space, was selected for a Research Presentation Award. Such a great recognition of the super work, like Sierra's, that so many of our students do. Her careful research, insightful analytic intelligence, and great communication ability are part of the reason why she has also earned one of the awards for Outstanding English Student for 2023. Way to go, Sierra! And kudos to her many teachers and mentors along the way, like Dr. Rebekah Dement and Dr. Susan Popham.

SUMMER COURSE! Tue/Thu 6-9 pm

So often do we hear the medieval period referred to erroneously as the “Dark Ages.” This course will challenge that. Drawing from medieval English, Scandinavian, and continental cultures, we will ask: How can modern audiences relate to medieval displays of emotion? What cultures produced such intricate texts, and what part do these texts play in our history? How do the triumphs and failures of our own societies compare to those of medieval audiences?

"It’s a testament to director Tyler Tate that the energy in the performances never dipped so low as to lose the audience. The play is a marathon, and we watch the resentment between friends, the animosity between those employed and those out of work, the need for a scapegoat within your grasp that leads to racial and ethnic violence unfold subtly, artfully, until it is suddenly exploding."
