Charter Oak State College ( https://www.charteroak.edu ) is CT's public online college.

Charter Oak was established as a distance learning college in 1973 to assist adults in completing their college degrees. Today, Charter Oak State College is Connecticut's public online college offering master's, bachelor's and associate degree programs in a number of high-demand fields including Business, Health Care, Public Safety, Information Systems and more. Our students complete degrees through the use of our online courses and by combining other sources of credit.

CSCU Names Dr. Ken Udas, Charter Oak State College's Next President!

We are pleased and excited to welcome Dr. Udas to the Charter Oak State College community! Dr. Udas will begin his term October 30, 2026.

Dr. Udas brings nearly 30 years of senior leadership experience in public, online, continuing, and adult-serving higher education in the U.S. and internationally. He succeeds Ed Klonoski, who retired after serving as Charter Oak’s president for 18 years.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Udas to Charter Oak State College. He has built his career around expanding access to high-quality education and finding innovative ways to serve adult, working, and lifelong learners whose educational paths do not always follow a traditional path,” said CSCU Interim Chancellor Natalie Braswell. “Ken understands that college should be a catalyst for success and that we need to meet students where they are and support them throughout their working and learning lives. He is a great fit to lead Charter Oak into its next chapter and build on the strong legacy President Klonoski leaves behind.”

Charter Oak State College will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit October 18-21, by a team representing the New England Commission of Higher Education (formerly the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, NEASC).

The New England Commission of Higher Education is one of seven accrediting commissions in the United States that provide institutional accreditation. Accreditation is voluntary and applies to the institution as a whole. The Commission, which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, accredits approximately 220 institutions in the United States as well as several American-style institutions overseas.

Charter Oak State College has been accredited by the Commission since 1981 and was last reviewed in Fall 2016. Its accreditation by the Commission encompasses the entire institution.

For the past year and a half, Charter Oak State College has been engaged in a process of self-study, addressing the Commission’s Standards for Accreditation. An evaluation team will visit the institution to gather evidence that the self-study is thorough and accurate. The team will recommend to the Commission a continuing status for the institution. Following a review process, the Commission itself will take final action.
