Let’s give a shout out to Rosario Scalia.

He’s been our Italian Government Lecturer for a few years now, but now he’ll be moving onto his next position.
Rosario has been a wonderful addition to the department. Contributing his time and ideas and teaching and mentoring and tutoring to mention a few things.
We will truly miss having him here. We didn’t want to let him go without Rutgers gear, so he’ll remember his time here always.

We’re excited to share some news: the Foundation for Innovation and Excellence in Italian Teaching (FIEIT) is officially up and running. 🇮🇹
FIEIT was created to support and grow Italian language education. Our goal is to provide teachers with useful tools and training and ensure that students—no matter their background—have access to strong Italian language programs.
We’re working in collaboration with the Italian Embassy and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help bring more Italian into schools across the Tri-State area, especially in New Jersey. We offer support in many forms—including resources, training, and funding—to help schools launch or strengthen Italian programs.
Here’s what we’re focusing on:
Workshops and professional development for K–12 Italian teachers
Help with curriculum design and assessments
Support for dual enrollment programs (high school + college credit)
Collaboration on language certifications in the U.S.
A new online platform with teaching and learning resources
We’re looking forward to connecting with teachers, schools, and communities that care about the future of Italian language education. More updates soon! Visit our website:

The Foundation for Innovation and Excellence in Italian Teaching (FIEIT) is committed to advancing Italian language and culture education in bilingual or multilingual contexts through innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity.
