On Monday, February 7th 1994, eight great men became the National Founding Fathers of Iota Nu Delta National Fraternity Incorporated and founded the FIRST South Asian Interest Fraternity in the world. By forming this organization, their goal was to bridge the gaps between people of different backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures – all while promoting South Asian cultural awareness. With this visi

on in mind, we the Brothers of Iota Nu Delta at Mu Chapter strive to continue and expand the dream of those who have come before us. Rutgers Colony of Iota Nu Delta was officially established by TEN young men on August 5th, 2009. With the foundation that these men have paved, our organization has grown to SIXTY SEVEN men and we still strive to grow not in numbers, but in strength. With the principles of MIND, BODY and SOUL culminating into an immeasurable strength known as SHAKTI, we the Brothers of Iota Nu Delta continue to leave our legacy by fulfilling and expanding the strength of our movement. Many men have felt the spark to travel down our path, however, few have been able to cross the line. Is the FIRE in YOU?

2. Requirements for joining In terms of recruitment, the “recruitment period" is the period of time in which one is able to acquaint themselves with lota Nu Delta and its brothers. Recruitment period may vary from one week to two weeks depending on the chapter or colony in which the informational is held. During our recruitment period one can learn not only more about our principles and values as an organization but the various other aspects of our organization such as community service, social life, and brotherhood. In this period of time, informationals are held to help answer questions and concerns that prospective members may have. During the informational, our meeting with the prospective members is set up in an interactive manner so that we can deliver information regarding all aspects of fraternity life, especially concerning how lota Nu Delta differentiates itself as a Brotherhood. We also obtain feedback as to what they are looking for and at the same time describe how we may be able help to achieve that. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend and enjoy the benefits of all hosted events. There are no commitments during recruitment and one has nothing to lose and everything to gain. We encourage individuals to go and explore the other various Greek organizations, as we want all prospective members to feel like they made the right and informed choice when choosing lota Nu Delta. lota Nu Delta does not accept just any individual; it is only for a select number of individuals who we feel will be an asset to the organization in some way or form. Upon the end of the recruitment period, interviews are conducted and finally bids are given out. This is the time to finally determine who is fit to be part of the organization. We don't consider ourselves a fraternity but rather a brotherhood; we look for individuals who we would like to welcome into a family.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Brothers of the Iota Nu Delta Fraternity, Inc. stand with the Black Community in the pursuit of equal and just treatment under and by the law. Police Brutality, Anti-Black Sentiment, Black Cultural Appropriation, have run rampant through this country since before it was even founded and are hereby strongly condemned by this organization. A revolution has begun and we must do our part to fight racial discrimination and promote equality and justice for all.

Though we are a South Asian-Interest Fraternity, we owe much to the Black Community for the strides they made in the constant struggle to just be on the same playing field as the white-majority of this country. INΔ was created in the early 90’s as an outlet to combat growing tensions and stereotypes placed against the South Asian community. Our founding generation looked to leaders of historically Black Organizations like the Divine Nine for inspiration on how to lead by example and uplift their fellow minority brethren. Such values learned are still a part of our organization in the form of every new member’s education: To be better than they were yesterday and to stand for what is right.

We certainly weren’t the first Mult-Cultural Greek Lettered Organization, but we count ourselves as part of the first wave of South Asian Americans to lead the charge in aligning with the core values necessary to serve, lead and accomplish greater things for our communities and society. We as an organization, in accordance with the efforts of the National APIDA Panhellenic Association (NAPA) will continue to actively fight for equal rights for everyone regardless of race, religion, creed, gender or sexual orientation.

In mourning the loss of Ahmaud Arbery, an innocent jogger trying to workout in his own neighborhood, Breonna Taylor, an EMT on the frontlines of COVID-19 who was killed in her own home, George Floyd, who went to the convenience store to grab a couple things before an officer suffocated him by kneeling on his neck or any of the other countless lives needlessly taken, we recognize that there must be action. It is imperative that we all recognize our role to play in combating racial inequality and violence - to not be complicit in the wake of the ignorant and racist acts of others.

We call upon our Brothers to Become the Flame and apply the tenets of Mind, Body and Soul to fight this injustice. The ‘Shakti’ or power alone that comes from binding together and facing this will give you all the strength to do what is right and stand by those that are marginalized, oppressed, and need our help.

Addressing anti-Black sentiment in our communities is NECESSARY. Donating to causes that fight for the rights of POC is IMPORTANT. Supporting our Black Brothers and Sisters for an equal and just society is IMPERATIVE.

ORGANIZE as you feel comfortable due to this pandemic. DONATE to causes that need the money to keep this movement alive. LISTEN to your Black Brothers and Sisters when they speak about their experiences living in this country and the hardships they face. EDUCATE yourself and others that are unaware of this larger struggle.

As members of a South Asian organization though we don't fully grasp the hardships endured by the Black Community we hold this to be true: Only through recognition that Black Lives Matter will All Lives truly Matter.

Signed,

The National Executive Board of Iota Nu Delta Fraternity, Inc. ‘19 - ‘21
