“My study abroad experience was more than a trip–it was an opportunity for learning inside and outside of the classroom, cultural immersion, and growth. I was challenged academically and inspired personally. This experience has truly been life-changing. Living in Rome taught me to embrace Il Dolce Far Niente–the sweetness of doing nothing–by learning to slow down and appreciate life’s quiet moments. Il Dolce Far Niente was particularly hard for me to understand and practice, as I am so used to the fast-paced “hustle culture” that is normalized in the United States. Once I truly understood what Il Dolce Far Niente meant and experienced it for myself, it shifted my perspective. Now that I’ve learned to embrace this mindset, I know I am never going back.

I will always be grateful for this experience and to John Cabot University for welcoming me to their beautiful campus. If you are thinking about studying abroad, I truly recommend it–it is an experience that stays with you long after arriving home.” (2/2)

“This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Rome, Italy, for five weeks with John Cabot University. During my time in Rome, I immersed myself in Italian culture and academics by taking two amazing classes: Mechanics of Materials and Italian Food Culture.

Mechanics of Materials was a challenging yet rewarding course where I was able to expand my knowledge within real-world engineering applications. Italian Food Culture allowed me to explore history, traditions, and the global influence of Italian food culture.” (1/2)

From Tanzania to the Rutgers stage 🌍✨

At the 2026 Global Appreciation Dinner, Rutgers senior Neha Tehmas reflected on how her experience in the Global Health Practicum program in Tanzania transformed her perspective on learning, growth, and embracing the unexpected.

As Neha shared: “We run through life so fast and try to plan every moment, but we end up learning the most when we slow down sometimes and take on life and all its unexpected aspects head on, without hesitation.”

“During the weekend, we used what we learned through a volunteer opportunity with Placencia Humane Society, where pet owners paid what they could. These pets would receive shots, vitamins, and be spayed or neutered. There was a check-in section, a surgery section, and a post-operation section where we were able to alternate in. At surgery, I was able to observe Dr.T perform the surgery, and after, I was able to stitch a puppy and an adult dog.

Being in Belize was wonderful. The food, the people, and the environment were all great, and it was so relaxing. The Belizeans' simple way of living made me realize that having nice things is not so important. I am grateful for my experience because I now have a solid foundation with animal handling, vaccines, and suturing. I am also grateful that I was able to learn more about myself and my dream career.” (2/2)

“When I first arrived in Belize, it was so hot, and I noticed how beautiful it is. Getting used to the extreme hot weather was not easy, but I was able to manage by hydrating a lot. In my experience in Belize, there were 13 of us total. Some were from Texas, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. I loved how half of us were Hispanic; it made me feel represented. On our first day, we settled in with our roommates. On Monday, we all went to a clinic where we met Dr.T and Rubin. During the weekdays, we were introduced to various topics, including animal types, diseases, and suturing. After lunch, we had hands-on learning, including vaccinating dogs and cats, practicing sutures on chicken thighs, performing hematology, palpating a cow, performing physical exams on a horse, castrating a pig, and suturing live tissue after the vet finished a spay or neuter.” (1/2)

Rutgers is expanding its global impact in Ghana 🌍 through growing academic partnerships, faculty collaboration, and student engagement.

A standout effort: In 2025, Rutgers Law Professor J.C. Lore received a Rutgers Global Grant to advance access to legal counsel for underserved communities. After months of collaboration, he and Rutgers Law students traveled to Ghana in January 2026—training the country’s public defense system, volunteer attorneys, and law faculty in just two weeks.
