“Despite missing my many friends and family members back home, I was able to grow into myself while abroad and discover a whole new appreciation for my educational opportunities through Rutgers. The city of Dublin is truly beautiful, and the people were nothing but kind, funny, and lovely to be around. Studying abroad taught me to be more comfortable with myself through new and unfamiliar experiences. Going forward, I now have a better understanding of what I want for my future educational experiences, career opportunities, and what I truly value out of life and community.” (2/2)

Annabelle Hoover shares with us her study abroad experience in Ireland through the “University College Dublin” program:

“My study abroad experience is something I will never forget. Since getting accepted into Rutgers, I knew that I wanted to take advantage of the many different travel opportunities offered through the university. What I was not aware of was how much I would learn about myself while traveling throughout Ireland and Europe! As a very involved person within my Rutgers community, I was honestly a little scared to travel alone. Leading up to my departure, I frequently wondered how I would get through the semester without my teammates, sisters, and close friends. But as I continued on through my study abroad experience, I found myself increasingly becoming more comfortable being alone with myself.” (1/2)

On May 18, Rutgers Global hosted a graduation ceremony for a special group of 10 displaced students—7 students from Afghanistan and 3 students from Gaza—who completed an exceptionally challenging journey to obtain their degrees from Rutgers University. As Vice President for Global Affairs Rick Garfunkel noted in his opening remarks, “The strength and resilience needed to reach this achievement is nothing short of astounding. And this is why we are gathered together today—to honor this journey.”

🌎 Rutgers researchers are advancing global solutions to some of today’s most pressing environmental challenges.

With support from a Rutgers Global Grant for International Collaborative Research, Professor Laura Schneider, Professor Ben Lintner, and Geography doctoral candidate Leonardo Calzada from Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) recently traveled to the southern Yucatán to investigate how tropical forests, agricultural land use, and climate variability interact.
