Rutgers Tree Planting Festival

Please join us on April 18, 2026, for the Rutgers Tree Planting Festival, where we will be planting 3000 trees in the footprint of an abandoned roadway that was removed last year by Rutgers Institutional Planning and Operations. This will be the first Miyawaki Forest on the Rutgers University campus.

The goal of this event is to build community by collectively contributing to the environment and giving students first-hand experience in tree planting. There will be music, art, and food.

This event is open to all members of the Rutgers community and the public.

Check out the New Jersey Spotlight video featuring the star of the day — Scarlet Sunrise, a bi-color grape tomato making its public debut.

The annual event also included wagon tours of the farm and vibrant garden displays maintained by Rutgers Master Gardeners.

The sweet, crack-resistant grape tomato has been cultivated for nearly a decade, and on Wednesday the public got its first bite at the annual event in Pittst...

Rutgers researchers examined more than 3,000 ticks in the Garden State and found only one carrying Rickettsia rickettsii, the bacterium that causes Rocky Mountain spotted fever. But cases of tick-borne spotted fe...
