UNLV currently has an opening for an MCAT tutor, which will be the first time we have offered such a position. The position requires at least four hours per week of in-person tutoring on the UNLV main campus and pays $18/hour.

If you are a former students who is now in the Las Vegas area, and would be a good fit for the role; or possibly any student who is in their gap year while they go through the medical school application process and are back in Vegas, this would be a great opportunity! Please share to those you might know who would be a good fit!

APSA is the largest national organization representing physician-scientist trainees, with over 2,000 members from more than 100 institutions across the United States and its territories. They are excited to invite mentors and prospective graduate and professional school applicants to participate in our Pre-Medical Mentorship Program. This is a program where current physician-scientist trainees serve as mentors throughout the academic year to pre-medical undergraduate/post-baccalaureate students interested in becoming physician-scientists. This is a valuable opportunity for pre-medical students to form a longitudinal one-on-one connection with a physician-scientist trainee and receive personalized advice/feedback towards achieving their career goals. All mentor-mentee pairs receive “monthly prompts” with discussion topics specific to the physician-scientist training path. Some past topics included MCAT study strategies, MD/DO-PhD interview-specific advice, and insight into a day in the life of a physician-scientist trainee. Mentees may sign up for free and do not need to be an APSA member. The mentee application can be found here and is open now until Thursday, October 5th, 2026.

Please reach out to: [email protected] and [email protected] with any questions.

“The Doctor of Physical Therapy program is an important investment in Nevada’s health care workforce and in the communities that depend on access to these services,” said Muge Akpinar-Elci, M.D., MPH, dean of the University of Nevada, Reno, School of Public Health, in a school news release. “By educating future physical therapists here in Northern Nevada, we can help create pathways for students to build their careers in our state and expand access to care in communities where the need is greatest.”

Applications are being accepted through Nov. 1 and forty will be selected for the three-year program’s inaugural class.

When the first class arrives in 2027, students will step into a dedicated home for physical therapy education at the John Iliescu, M.D. Physical Therapy Building at 634 Ryland St. in Reno.

Q: What do you plan to do with your one and only precious life?

That’s the basis of ACE 101 as we explore what life might look like as a future healthcare provider.

We’re going to take a deep dive into ourselves, and asking the hard questions that we need to figure out. By the end of this class, we’ll understand what it means to become a competitive applicant into professional programs; or, we’ll off-ramp into an entirely different path that might actually be more aligned with our skills and interests.

In any case, ACE 101 intends to build armies of talented and dedicated students to further the strategic healthcare goals that our future generations need! What a great first day into that journey!

Happy fall start everyone!

If you’re wondering what courses you’ll need, or if your current schedule looks good for the semester, come on in and we’ll let you know!

When do you need to start taking your Gen Biol/O Chem/Physics courses? Where can you find healthcare opportunities? Who are the people you need to meet?

We are holding drop in hours this week and taking regular appointments next week. Be sure you are coded in the system as a pre-health student and schedule on your own to meet with one of us peers, or a staff advisor if you want to see what your application timeline looks like in the next semester…. See you soon!
