The amateur radio club of Yale University. W1YU is Yale University's callsign on amateur airwaves. Amateur radio is also known as "Ham" radio.

Yale's amateur radio league has been providing volunteer, noncommercial as well as recreational and emergency communication service to Yale University and New Haven since its eastablishment in 1931. At Yale, W1YU operates as a general club for the purposes of education and participation in traditional amateur radio activities, and is also becoming more active in a public service capacity through a

n affiliation with Yale's Emergency Management Office. Members of the Yale community are welcome to join W1YU, including current faculty, staff, and students as well as emeritus faculty, retired staff and alumni.

TONIGHT is the 100th consecutive edition of the Yale University weekly net. We will be celebrating our milestone with a special edition of the net tonight with trivia.
All stations everywhere are invited to join in. The net begins at 8:00 PM EDT on the W1WPD/R repeater 442.500+ 073 DCS in Woodbridge CT and is also available via Echolink on the NEW-ENG Conference Node. JOIN US!

W1YU members Seamus KC1JFP and Zach KC1IGZ building an electromagnetic telegraph sounder at tonight’s Center for Engineering Innovation and Design at Yale. W1YU is celebrating notable Yale alum Samuel FB Morse this month and will be operating a Special Event Station at the end of April...stay tuned for details.

Next week the Yale Amateur Radio Club will be leading a Wednesday Workshop at the Center for Design Innovation and Design on the Morse Code.
Participants will build this electromagnetic Morse Code sounder and key and see a 40 M demonstration on CW using a QRP transmitter and receiver.
In April W1YU will operate a special event station celebrating the life of noted Yale alum Samuel FB Morse...watch for details!

CONGRATULATIONS W1YU CONTEST CREW FOR SOLID 2017 ARRL SWEEPS SHOWING!

W1YU participated in the November Sweeps this past weekend
operating from our clubhouse station at the Graduate Club and logged 108 QSOs in 40 Sections for a reported score of 8,640.

We swept zones 3, 8 and 9 and narrowly missed zones 2 & 4.
Control operators AB1DQ and N3NFP provided an introduction to HF ops and contesting to several of our recently licensed Techs - KC1IGY, KC1IGZ , KC1IHA, and N1PJD - who each tried their hand on the air operating third party.

The map summarizes our work in the ‘test.

We will be back next year!
