The Council collaborates with schools and departments throughout Yale to support faculty, students, a

nd visiting scholars by sharing their interdisciplinary expertise on European affairs with the broader public. The Council aims to foster a wider understanding of Europe as both a place and an idea, reflecting the evolving nature of the region and its network of connections throughout the world. degree program, and we offer students in the University’s doctoral and other professional degree programs the chance to obtain a Certificate in European Studies, by fulfilling a supplementary curriculum. The Undergraduate Major in Russian and East European Studies is administered by the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures. The ESC is also home to special programs in European Union Studies; Baltic Studies; the Hellenic Studies Program, which offers instruction in Modern Greek language, literature, history, and culture; and the Program in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies.

Next Week: Join us for "The Long Goodbye: Europe Without America"

The Blue Center for Global Strategic Assessment of the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs and the EU Studies Program will co-host a discussion with political scientist Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook.

Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook is a German-American political scientist and a leading voice on transatlantic affairs. She has served as a CNN correspondent, directed the Future of Diplomacy Project at Harvard Kennedy School, and led the German Council on Foreign Relations. Today, she works at the Bertelsmann Stiftung on transatlantic relations, U.S. politics, technology governance, and the future of democracy. Her latest book, The American Wake-Up Call, was published in January 2026.

Cameron Abadi is the Berlin-based deputy editor of Foreign Policy magazine, co-host of the Ones and Tooze podcast together with Adam Tooze, and author of Climate Radicals: Why Our Environmental Politics Isn’t Working (Columbia Global Reports, 2024). His writing has appeared in Bloomberg Businessweek, the New Yorker, the New Republic, Die Zeit, and Der Spiegel. Abadi is also a founding board member of the McCloy Transatlantic Forum in Frankfurt. He earned his BA in political theory at Yale University and MA at the Free University of Berlin.
