Rangoli is an ancient pan-Indian line drawn folk art practiced all over India under a variety of names including Kolam, Alpana, Chaookpurna, Saathiya and Sanjhi.

Designs may be drawn as a daily ritual or for special occasions and constructed on doorsteps, floors and walls with a variety of materials including flower petals, leaves, seeds, rice powder, and in our case chalk.

Our Rangoli event was in colorful anticipation of Holi, which we will celebrate soon.

In the first slide we have renowned translator of Pali Buddhist texts and monk Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi visits the Buddhist Shrine Room, April 2026, along with Buddhist nun Ven. Hong Hui of Chuang Yen Monastery in upstate NY. What an honor!

Hong Hui of Chuang Yen Monastery in upstate NY. Buddhist studies faculty were delighted to receive both!
