John Francis, MD, PhD, is a highly respected medical education leader with over 11 years of experience in student affairs. Dr. Francis is a member of the senior education leadership team and leads the school’s Office of Student Affairs. He is responsible for overseeing the creation and provision of services and activities that support the academic, personal, and professional development of students throughout their time at YSM. He has received several awards at Yale including, among others: the Admired Physician, Teacher and Role Model Award. His caring and thoughtful nature is an attribute many students speak about during during their time at Yale.
Beverley J Sheares, MD, MS is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Pulmonary, Allergy/Immunology, & Sleep Medicine section at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Sheares serves as the Director for the Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Program, the Medical Director of the Aerodigestive Program, and the Health Equity Thread Leader for the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Sheares develops health equity content for the medical school curriculum, partners with faculty to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusive content in existing courses, and creates opportunities for faculty and student development in health equity. Many students admire Dr. Sheares for her work as a career and research mentor who has helped guide them through the medical journey.
Dr. Latimore joined Yale in 2017 from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, where he was associate dean for student and resident diversity. He is Yale School of Medicine’s first deputy dean for diversity and inclusion and its first chief diversity officer. He is devoted to increasing diversity within medical and academic spaces and to improving the climate of Yale School of Medicine’s learning and working environments. In his role, he has implemented a comprehensive program to improve faculty diversity and retention that focuses on policies, programs, and building community.
