From idea → inquiry → implementation → impact 🩺

Our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) candidates shared powerful work through their Scholarly Projects earlier this week. These presentations represent months (and years!) of scholarship, leadership, and commitment to advancing nursing practice. From improving patient-centered care to addressing implicit bias and system-level change, their work reflects the heart of what it means to be a nurse leader.

We are so proud of the meaningful contributions you are making to healthcare and the nursing profession. 💙

Lifting, moving, and learning.. together 💪💙

Our ABSN students spent time with the rehab team getting hands-on with safe patient handling equipment, including lifts, gait belts, and mobility devices.

These experiences don’t just build skills - they build confidence, teamwork, and a commitment to patient safety that will carry into clinical practice. 🩺

Senior nursing student, Ellie, is loving her practicum in Interventional Radiology and it shows 💙

Interventional Radiology (IR) is a specialized area where minimally invasive, image-guided procedures are used to diagnose and treat patients - offering a unique blend of procedural care and critical thinking.

“I feel incredibly lucky for how welcoming and amazing the team is!” - Ellie

At CSC Nursing, practicum experiences can go beyond traditional inpatient units - helping students explore specialized areas and discover where they thrive. 🩺

Future nurses 🤝 future physicians

On Friday, Colby-Sawyer College Nursing had the privilege of hosting an interprofessional education (IPE) session in collaboration with our colleagues from Geisel School of Medicine and the Patient Safety Training Center at Dartmouth Health.

Senior nursing students and 3rd-year medical students worked together in a simulated clinical scenario to develop a safe and effective hospital discharge plan for a patient.

Through this experience, students practiced:
✔️ Interprofessional collaboration
✔️ Active listening and shared decision-making
✔️ Team-based problem solving
✔️ Delivering person-centered, safe, and equitable care

Experiences like this highlight the power of teamwork in healthcare and prepare our students to lead in complex clinical environments.

We are grateful for our continued partnership with Geisel and DHMC in shaping the future of collaborative care. 💙🩺

Students in our Introduction to Professional Nursing course recently participated in a communication simulation designed to strengthen teamwork, critical thinking, and clinical communication skills.

Through interactive activities and real-time problem solving, students practiced prioritization, collaboration, and clear communication - all essential components of safe, effective patient care.

Learning goes beyond the textbook at CSC Nursing. Our students are building the skills that matter most. 💙🩺

ABSN ’26 student, Sarah, recently had the incredible opportunity in her practicum to support Hope B. (ABSN alum Fall ’24) during the delivery of a set of twins at the Birthing Pavilion at .

Just hours later, Sarah observed another twin delivery alongside Birthing Pavilion nurses, including Michelle (ABSN alum Spring ’24) - welcoming four babies in just four hours!

Moments like these highlight the power of mentorship and the strength of the CSC Nursing community - where alumni return as colleagues, guiding the next generation of nurses.

Sarah shared how grateful she is for the mentorship and support she has received and that through experiences like this are what make nursing so meaningful.

🩺 Learning by doing. Thinking like nurses.

Our Fundamentals of Nursing students in both our Traditional BSN and ABSN programs kicked off their Introduction to Simulation, practicing patient assessments with our simulation manikins and tackling our “Room of Disbelief”—a patient room filled with hidden safety concerns.

Through hands-on learning, students build the observation, teamwork, and clinical judgment skills essential for safe patient care.

This is where nursing practice begins. 💙

Learning from the experts in the OR!

Our junior nursing students recently had the opportunity to learn alongside Operating Room staff at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, gaining hands-on experience with airway management, surgical instruments, and sterile technique.

From practicing intubation on simulation models to exploring the tools used in real surgical procedures, students were able to connect classroom learning with the realities of perioperative nursing. Experiences like this help build confidence, critical thinking, and clinical skills before stepping into the clinical setting.

A huge thank you to the incredible DHMC OR team for sharing their expertise and mentoring the next generation of nurses! 💙🩺

🌟 Student Spotlight | CSC ABSN Practicum Experience 🌟

From the bedside to the operating room — experiential learning in action!

During practicum, Heather G., ABSN student (anticipated graduation May 2026), had the unique opportunity to follow her assigned patient through the entire continuum of care — an experience that truly captures the depth of clinical learning in nursing education.

After caring for her patient on the floor during multiple shifts, Heather completed a morning assessment, participated in the pre-operative consult, accompanied her patient to Same Day Surgery, observed a nerve block procedure, and followed her into the OR for vascular surgery. With a small surgical team, Heather was actively included in clinical discussions and decision-making throughout the case.

What made the experience especially meaningful was the outcome. Following a graft revascularization procedure, the surgical team determined that an anticipated toe amputation was no longer necessary.

“Such a happy day to see her wake up and still have her toe. Awesome experience.”
— Heather G., ABSN Student

Experiences like this highlight how CSC nursing students develop clinical reasoning, continuity-of-care understanding, and patient-centered perspectives across settings — from pre-op preparation to recovery and return to the unit.

👏 We are proud of Heather’s curiosity, initiative, and commitment to learning alongside interdisciplinary teams while advocating for patient outcomes.
