This past week was Aviation Week here at USCGA! We had nine total events throughout the week to get cadets excited about aviation. Some of the highlights included AIRTSTA Atlantic City performing a hoist demonstration on the Thames, a law enforcement talk with pilots from AIRSTA Clearwater, and a discussion with CAPT Lovett, a retired CG pilot with a Purple Heart and a Distinguished Flying Cross. Thank you again to all of our pilots who helped make this week a success!

Today we had over 100 participants come out for the annual "Workout to Remember CG-6535," which is in memory of the four crew members lost on the aircraft 6 years ago. The workout consisted of 4 rounds of a 400m run, 65 squats, and 35 burpee pull-ups. We take great pride in honoring our country, our service, and our shipmates.

Today was the last day of Aviation Week here at the CGA. This afternoon, an MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter visited us from AIRSTA Atlantic City. Cadets were given to opportunity to climb inside and talk to the crew about their careers in aviation, and the various missions they perform. Wednesday, we also had another helicopter landing, this time from AIRSTA Cape Cod. The crew of the MH-60 Jayhawk talked to us about the capabilities of the aircraft and the operations they perform on a daily basis. Thank you again to the crews of AIRSTA Atlantic City and AIRSTA Cape Cod. Go Aviation Week! Go Bears!

Today was day 03 of Aviation Week at the Coast Guard Academy. Tonight, the cadets had the privilege of being addressed by Vice Admiral Charles W. Ray, the Coast Guard Deputy Commandant of Operations, and the Ancient Albatross. VADM Ray is a 1981 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy and earned his wings in 1984. Vice Admiral Charles Ray has received a multitude of awards throughout his career including the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal, five Legion of Merit Medals, the Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Coast Guard Air Medal, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal. We were absolutely honored to have him as our Keynote Speaker for this year’s Aviation Week!

It’s Day 02 of Aviation Week! Today, our cadets had the privilege of participating in two Q and A panels. During lunch, the Aviation Club heard from LCDR Mary Bender, a previous Flight School instructor, who shared her thoughts on going through Flight School and her time teaching others to fly. For our evening presentation, a crew from AIRSTA Houston came to speak to cadets about their experiences during Hurricane Harvey, and the demanding, yet rewarding, job they have!

Welcome to Aviation Week! This annual, week-long event consists of a variety of guest speakers, aviation based Q & A panels, and even helicopter displays and training operations conducted at the Academy. This is a great opportunity for cadets to learn more about the Aviation Community and the amazing missions the Coast Guard executes on a daily basis. This eventful week kicked off this evening with a Junior Officer Panel; LT Kimberly Wood and LT Paul Williams from AIRSTA Cape Cod came to speak to cadets about their duties and responsibilities as Junior Officers at the air station as well as their experiences in flight school. Be on the lookout for our events later in the week, which include a presentation from pilots and crew from AIRSTA Houston and an address from VADM Ray!
