Andrew J. Pinkes ’84 was recently appointed to the USAA Board of Directors, beginning his tenure on May 29.

Connecticut College has named Michael Guilfoyle, current vice president for communications and marketing at Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, as Conn’s new vice president for marketing and communications. He will begin his tenure on July 6.

Nick Hagen ’26, an East Asian studies and history double-major from Columbia, South Carolina, has won a Fulbright U.S. Student Program English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) grant to conduct research and teach English in Taiwan for the 2026-2027 academic year.

During his Fulbright year in Taiwan, Hagen plans to form a language cafe and music club to collaboratively share American culture and create spaces for cultural exchange.

Camel friendships go the distance. 🐪💙

When Stephanie Van Riet '19 celebrated earning her MFA in Sculpture from RISD, Connecticut College alumni and former women's cross country teammates Kelsey McGinnis '17, Micaela Nee '18 and Megan Feragne '20 were there to support her.

The four friends met through Conn athletics and, despite only overlapping on campus for a year, have maintained a lasting friendship years after graduation.

Ciara McNamara ’24 and Sophia Rey ’26 have each been awarded a $19,000 Mortimer Hays-Brandeis Traveling Fellowship, which provides support to students in the visual and fine arts—including art history, conservation, studio art and photography—for a year of travel and living expenses outside of the United States.

🌳 Last month, Mary Rizzo ’26, with help from Allie Flemington ’27, arboretum assistant director Scott D’Agostino and arbo neighbor John Sargent, painted a mural on the wall of the Arboretum office building on Gallows Lane.

Rizzo, an art major and botany minor, designed the mural alongside arboretum director Maggie Redfern as part of an independent study this semester.

On May 29, the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geophysics held a ceremony in the F.W. Olin Science Center to officially open its new telescope, which arrived last year, and dedicate it to Associate Professor Emeritus of Physics Leslie Brown.

The 14-inch Corrected Dall-Kirkham telescope, made possible by an anonymous $100,000 donation from one of Brown’s former students, was named after the professor “in recognition of the invaluable work she has done for Connecticut College over her career.”
