From keeping our campus safe during winter storms to maintaining our athletic fields and work behind the scenes to set up and break down major outdoor events, including Commencement, ensuring every event runs smoothly. The Grounds Crew plays a vital role in supporting life at the Academy.

Today, we're highlighting Justin Conrad Jr., whose dedication and leadership consistently exceed expectations. Justin maintains the baseball field, softball field, and the Parade Field, helping ensure they are always ready for competition, training, and Academy traditions.

Whether taking on responsibilities beyond his normal duties, helping maintain operations during challenging periods, or leading by example to keep morale high, Justin is a trusted professional and valued member of our team.

🎶 Join us for an afternoon of music at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy! 🎶

The U.S. Coast Guard Band will perform a free public concert on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m. in Leamy Hall. Come enjoy an outstanding performance from one of the nation's premier military bands and experience an afternoon of great music with family and friends.

⚓ Change of Watch ⚓

Today, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy held a Change of Watch ceremony as Command Master Chief Evan Burch transferred the responsibilities of senior enlisted leader to Command Master Chief Tony Martinez.

We thank CMC Burch for his steadfast leadership, mentorship, and dedication to the Academy's cadets, faculty, and staff. His commitment to developing future Coast Guard leaders has left a lasting impact on the Academy community.

Please join us in welcoming CMC Martinez as he assumes this important role. We look forward to his leadership and continued commitment to supporting cadet development and the Academy mission.

🚁⚓ Summer Training is in full swing!

Cadets training aboard a 45-foot Response Boat in San Francisco recently conducted helicopter operations with a MH-65 Dolphin. These hands-on experiences give cadets a closer look at Coast Guard missions while building teamwork, leadership, and operational skills.

Soon, the Class of 2030 will begin their journey of leadership, teamwork, and service as they take on the challenges ahead and start their journey to become officers in the United States Coast Guard.

We can’t wait to welcome the newest generation of cadets to New London.

⚓ Cadet Promotions! ⚓

Last week, 2/c cadets advanced to the rank of 1/c cadet, taking their place as the senior class and preparing for their final year at the Academy. 3/c cadets are now 2/c cadets preparing as the cadre for swab summer and the freshman class, 4/c cadets earned promotion to 3/c cadets!

With each promotion comes new opportunities and greater responsibilities. Congratulations to all of our newly promoted cadets! 🎉

🎓⚓ As we wrap up Commencement season and welcome the Class of 2026 to the fleet, we're continuing our series by highlighting members of the Class of 2025 and their first year of service. ⚓🌎

ENS James Chase is currently serving aboard the USCGC Stratton, homeported in Alameda, CA. His time aboard has been filled with adventure, challenge, and constant learning as he develops his ship handling skills and gains experience operating around the world. He has especially enjoyed visiting new places with the cutter and learning to appreciate the everyday comforts that can be easy to take for granted while underway.

Although his assignment has taken him around the world, one of his favorite aspects of the job is returning home to a familiar community and spending time with family between patrols.

Advice he has for the new ENS: "Your first assignment will challenge you in many new ways, and you will grow immensely from it. You are about to undertake an immense amount of change to kick off an exciting new chapter in your life!"
