Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, is the only historically Black, Catholic college in the USA. The only historically Black, Catholic university in the United States, XULA is a private, liberal-arts based, co-educational institution offering 40 undergraduate majors, five master’s degree programs and a doctor of pharmacy program. More than one-half of its 3,100 students are from Louisiana, but it draws students from nearly all fifty states and 35 countries.

Due to anticipated weather conditions, Xavier University of Louisiana will operate remotely on Wednesday, July 22. The campus will be closed; only essential personnel should report to campus. College of Medicine faculty and staff should confirm with their supervisors regarding work expectations and operational details.
Students should contact their instructors or check Brightspace and their Xavier email for information on how classes will be conducted.
The university will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and provide additional updates as needed should conditions pose a concern.
The safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors remains our highest priority. Please stay safe, exercise caution, and remain weather aware throughout the day.

Congratulations to Vincent “Vinny” Barraza, head of Archives and Special Collections at Xavier University of Louisiana, on receiving the 2026 Sister M. Claude Lane, O.P. Memorial Award from the Society of American Archivists.

The award recognizes archivists who have made significant contributions to the field of religious archives. For more than a decade, Barraza has worked to preserve and elevate Xavier’s history through oral history projects, archival initiatives, and his contributions to “A Century of Faith, Education & Service: The Xavier University of Louisiana Story.”

His dedication to preserving the legacy of the nation’s only Catholic HBCU ensures Xavier’s story will continue to inspire future generations.

Due to weather conditions in our area, Xavier University of Louisiana will be closed today, Thursday, June 18.
As previously scheduled, the university will observe the Juneteenth holiday on Friday, June 19. The university will reopen and resume normal operations on Monday, June 22.

We encourage all members of the Xavier community to remain safe, monitor local weather conditions, and avoid unnecessary travel.

Dear Xavier Community,

Due to weather conditions in our area, Xavier University of Louisiana will operate on a delayed start schedule today. All university operations and classes will begin at 10 a.m.
Faculty and staff should remain in communication with their supervisors regarding work expectations and any department-specific adjustments. Students are encouraged to check Brightspace, email, and other course communication channels for updates from their instructors regarding class schedules and assignments.
The safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our top priority. Please use caution while traveling, monitor local weather conditions, and remain weather aware throughout the day.

Should additional operational changes become necessary, updates will be shared through official university communication channels.
