Heads up! New faculty bio!
Dovile Vilda, PhD, MSc
Assistant Professor

Dr. Dovile Vilda is an interdisciplinary social scientist and public health researcher with advanced training and experience in mixed methods and policy research. Her current projects focus on: 1) examining the medicalization of childbirth in Louisiana through a mixed-methods approach; 2) investigating intersectional disparities in fertility care; and 3) analyzing the role of social determinants and state-level policies (e.g., abortion bans, fi***rm laws) in contributing to higher rates of adverse maternal and child health outcomes in the U.S. She received her PhD in Social Policy from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Social Epidemiology at the Mary Amelia Center for Women’s Health Equity Research (Tulane University).

Meet our amazing team, starting off with our wonderful director!
Katherine P. Theall, PhD, MPH

Professor: Cecile Usdin Professorship in Women’s Health
Co-Director Mary Amelia Center for Women's Health Equity Research and Senior Director, Violence Prevention Institute
Director of the Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health

As a social epidemiologist, Theall's research focuses on reducing health inequities by understanding and altering built and social neighborhood environments and social policies for better health in vulnerable populations locally, nationally, and internationally and researching innovative methodologies to do so. She is actively involved in interventions and policies aimed at altering environments for better health in vulnerable populations. Dr. Theall has received funding from the CDC, NIH, HRSA and private foundations such as the Robert Wood Johnson and W.K. Kellogg Foundations. She has published over 250 peer reviewed papers and presented numerous scientific talks in her area of research. As director of an academic center with a strong base in community partnered participatory research aimed at addressing social determinants of women and children’s health and the processes that shape these determinants, she continues to find ways to disseminate her team’s work and turn it into action.
