Loyno Law Summer Spotlight: Alexandra Nelson, 3L ⚖️☀️

As a legal intern at Hair Shunnarah Trial Attorneys, Alexandra spent her summer conducting research and drafting documents dealing with personal injury and property-casualty claims. She credits Loyola for teaching her how to cultivate strong legal writing and research skills. Loyola's coursework taught her to identify relevant legal issues, apply the correct case law, and communicate arguments clearly and professionally.

"I was drawn to this position because I have always known that I wanted to help people," she said. "The most rewarding part of my job has been knowing that the work I do behind the scenes contributes to helping clients through some of the hardest times in their lives."

Professor Dane Ciolino is quoted in a recent story from The New York Times about the legal ethics surrounding a deal made between Louisiana and Meta for a data center in the state. Prof. Ciolino is the Alvin R. Christovich Distinguished Professor of Law and published his book, Louisiana Legal Ethics, in 2022.

Read the piece below ⤵

Meta wanted a rebate to build its A.I. data center in Richland Parish, an impoverished farming community in Louisiana’s northeast corner. The company worked with state officials on the $50 billion project with no opposition — in part because locals didn’t know about the deal until it was done. https://trib.al/XjYOFK6

Hallo from Vienna!

Students recently returned from our summer legal studies program one of Europe's most culturally and politically important cities. In addition to their time studying at University of Vienna Law School and exploring the city, they toured the Austrian Parliament, the Austrian Constitutional and Supreme courts, and travelled to Prague. Check out a typical day in the life of one of our students, Isis Frech, during the trip!

Loyno Law Summer Spotlight: Alfredo Franceschi, 3L ⚖️☀️

Alfredo is spending his summer in the world of immigration and business law as a summer associate at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP in Miami. He's helping attorneys across the full lifecycle of employment-based cases. He was drawn to the work because of the opportunity to take on responsibility in sophisticated legal work that can have a direct and meaningful impact on people's lives.

"Loyola's greatest gift to me has been its emphasis on legal research and writing," Alfredo said. "Learning to build a clear, well-supported argument is exactly what this work requires. Loyno Law also trained me to manage competing deadlines, work carefully with detailed records, and communicate professionally with attorneys, staff, and clients."

Loyno Law Summer Spotlight: Elexis Jacobs, 3L ⚖️☀️

Elexis earned firsthand experience in the courtroom this summer by interning for the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office Trials Division, Section G.

"I was drawn to this position because criminal law has always been the area of law that interests me most, and this experience has reinforced that it is truly my calling," Elexis said. "Before law school, I was a nursing major and worked as a home care aide for the elderly. I found great fulfillment in helping people who needed care and support. As a future prosecutor, I am excited to continue serving others in a different capacity, helping those who need legal advocacy and seeking justice on behalf of victims and the community."
