It was a full house for a conversation about voting rights and protections!

Tulane Law students and faculty joined Professor Carla Laroche, local civil rights attorney Ron Wilson, voting rights practitioner William Most and Sarah Whittington, advocacy director at the ACLU of Louisiana, to discuss election protection and issues affecting New Orleanians and Louisianans. The panel was moderated by 2L Brookelynn Niesenbaum, PILF treasurer.

With midterm elections approaching, these conversations help prepare the next generation of lawyers to understand the issues shaping our elections and the protections that safeguard the right to vote.

Tulane Law alumnus Alfred Brownell has received the Elisabeth Haub Award for Environmental Law and Diplomacy, one of the highest honors in environmental law.

A longtime advocate for Indigenous land rights and rainforest protection in Liberia, Brownell has spent more than two decades using the law to defend vulnerable communities.

Congratulations to Professor Becki Kondkar on receiving the American Bar Association's Sharon L. Corbitt Award!

This national honor recognizes her decades of leadership and advocacy for survivors of gender-based violence. Through Tulane Law’s Domestic Violence Clinic and Women’s Prison Project, Becki has helped survivors rebuild their lives while preparing generations of law students to become thoughtful, effective advocates.

In 1839, 53 Africans who had been kidnapped and sold into slavery rebelled aboard the Spanish ship La Amistad. Their fight for freedom led to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case in 1841.

The Amistad Research Center hosted a symposium exploring the history of the case and how its legacy is shared with future generations. Tulane Law Professor Carla Laroche joined attorney Kim Boyle, a former Tulane board member, and Professor Paul Race of Southern University Law Center for a panel titled “Amistad: America’s First Civil Rights Case.”
