Many Muslims in the United States observe Eid-al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, each year. This festival commemorates Ibrahim’s (Abraham) willingness to sacrifice his son to God. This festival also marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

To those who celebrate Eid Al Adha, the Diversity Engagement Center wishes many blessing to you and your family. As you celebrate please remain safe and careful in the midst of this pandemic.

June 19, 1865, “Juneteenth” marks the date when Gen. Gordon Granger entered Galveston, Texas, to lead the Union occupation force and delivered the news of the Emancipation Proclamation to enslaved inhabitants in the region which had been delayed by two years. Texas was in rebellion, and while its black population did qualify for freedom on January 1, 1863, when the proclamation took effect, Texas ignored the proclamation, as did the ten other Confederate states. Recognition of this day has continued to grow in stature over the last decade as a result of key anniversaries (2011 to 2015 was the sesquicentennial of the Civil War), trends in public opinion, and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. As Jelani Cobb states, “Juneteenth exists as a counterpoint to the Fourth of July; the latter heralds the arrival of American ideals, the former stresses just how hard it has been to live up to them”(see also Frederick Douglas’ “What to the slave is the 4th of July”).

The has ruled in favor of our lawsuit to protect and has rejected attempts to end this critical program.

America is a land of hope and opportunity, and thanks to this decision, it will remain a beacon of light for so many. However, it is not a strong ruling, “The ruling said the government failed to give an adequate justification for ending the federal program. The administration could try again to shut it down by offering a more detailed explanation for its action, but the White House might not want to end such a popular program in the heat of a presidential campaign.”

If you want DACA to stay a relevant program continue to write your legislatures.

During this the has extended a landmark ruling that provides protections to millions of LGBTQ+ workers nationwide.

The decision was written by Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch, President Donald Trump's first nominee to the court. He was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and the court's four liberal justices. Associate Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh dissented.

"An employer who fires an individual for being homos*xual or transgender fires that person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different s*x," Gorsuch wrote.
