Congratulations to Jacob Voisin, who was recently awarded the Brian Patrick Storms Memorial Scholarship. Jacob is a Fine Arts Teacher at Mount Carmel High School. He is passionate about his career and is using the scholarship to earn his Masters in Teaching in Secondary English Education. Jacob shared that he believed "a structured and specified degree program would make me the best educator I can be for our students."

Congratulations to Elizabeth Tucker, who was awarded the Marty Hurley Endowed Scholarship! Elizabeth is a science teacher at Brother Martin High School and she is using the scholarship to earn her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Elizabeth aims to "deepen my understanding of the principles I already hold as an educator... to learn how to meet the needs of each student I teach."

Congratulations to Elizabeth Wherritt who was awarded the Marty Hurley Endowed Scholarship! Elizabeth is a 10th and 12th-grade Biology and AP Biology teacher at Brother Martin High School in New Orleans. She is using the scholarship to earn her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction to deepen her knowledge of instructional strategies, curriculum design, and effective classroom practices.

Congratulations to Isabella Landeche, the recipient of the David Harrison Long Endowed Scholarship! Isabella is a Secondary English Education major in her senior year. Isabella shared that "teachers have a unique ability to see their students in a way many do not, and if I can have a positive effect both academically and practically on my students, I will achieve my goals as an education major."

This morning we celebrated the largest class of Residents we’ve had in many years. Monday 39 students are starting their first or second semester of Residency. We’re so proud of the work they’ve put in to reach this milestone and look forward to watching them grow in their teaching practice.

Congratulations to Harper Hay, the inaugural recipient of the Ardis Crossman Hartney Endowed Scholarship in Teaching!

Harper is a Senior Elementary Education major at LSU New Orleans, currently in Residency as a 5th grade teacher. Harper is working towards her Elementary and Special Education teaching certificates. She is an excellent student who has been working as an outdoor educator and substitute teacher for many years, and she is excited to soon have a classroom of her own.

This scholarship honors Ardis Crossman Hartney, who began teaching in the Desire neighborhood upon graduating from the University of New Orleans in 1974. Her teaching career spanned 37 years and three continents. She taught every subject across all grades and also served as a principal and leadership coach.

The Teacher Education faculty are proud of Harper and appreciate the generosity of the Hartneys to make this opportunity possible for our students!
