A great physician doesn't just treat today's patients; they help discover tomorrow's treatments.

Thanks to a $1.67 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Tulane University School of Medicine will launch the Medical Scientist Training Program, doubling the number of MD-PhD students training to become physician-scientists.

The program is co-directed by Jay Kolls, MD, professor of medicine and pediatrics and the John W. Deming Endowed Chair in Internal Medicine, along with Heddwen Brooks, PhD, Professor and Chair in the Department of Physiology.

These future leaders will bridge the gap between the laboratory and the clinic, advancing research in areas including Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, stroke, and more.

Today marks the launch of the School of Medicine's Research Administration Service Unit (RASU), a centralized resource designed to streamline research administration and help investigators navigate everything from proposal development and budgeting to award management.

The unit is led by Executive Director Chloe Ball, MBA, and Director Angelique Smith, MBA.

If you've ever had a kidney stone, you know they're no joke. Dr. Brian Eisner, chair of Tulane Urology, recently joined Rena Malik, MD's podcast to explain why kidney stones happen, how they're treated, and what you can do to help prevent them.
